We’re rushing.
Emails, errands, meetings, messages. Deadlines we didn’t set and expectations we never agreed to. Even in our quiet moments, we’re scrolling, swiping, multitasking.
What if we could press pause?
Not forever. Not irresponsibly. Just long enough to breathe. To think. To listen. To be.
In 2012, I wrote a book called Pause: The Secret to a Better Life One Word at a Time. It offers one word per chapter. One focus per week. A simple rhythm for a not-so-simple life.
Words like Accepting. Breathing. Celebrating. Doubting. Enduring. Forgiving. Laughing. Learning. Fifty-two of them. One for each week of the year. Not a formula. Not a checklist. Just an invitation.
To slow the pace. To notice the now. To rest in the moment you’re actually living.
Why Pause?
Because life is too valuable to sprint through. Because your soul wasn’t built for speed. It was made for connection. For presence. For wonder.
Because pausing is not laziness. It’s intentionality. Because God often whispers, and hurry drowns Him out.
Where Do You Begin?
You begin with one word. This week, maybe it’s Listening. Another week, maybe it’s Smiling.
Or maybe it’s Doubting—yes, even that can be holy when it draws us closer to God.
Or Forgiving—the hardest and most freeing word of all.
Each chapter in Pause is a chance to reflect, journal, pray, notice, and simply breathe.
Explore the Whole Series
If Pause speaks to your soul, you might find hope in the rest of the series too:
· Pause for Moms – for those raising little humans while trying not to lose themselves.
· Pause for Pastors – for those serving others and needing space to be served by Jesus.
· Pause with Jesus – for those who want to slow down not just beside Jesus, but with Him.
Your Invitation Today
Take a moment.
Right now.
Before the next emails, errand, meeting, message. Before the next obligation.
Pause.
Just for a breath. Just for a prayer. Just for one word to shape your day.
You don’t have to fix everything today. You don’t have to finish everything today. But you can choose to live aware.
Refuse to hurry past the wonder nearby. God is in this moment—yes, this one.
Let’s not miss it.
