From the book Pause: The Secret to a Better Life, One Word at a Time.
Don’t just hear about a good book. Read it.
Don’t depend on what you already know. Learn more.
Don’t expect your brain to remember everything. Take notes.
Don’t believe you will respond correctly to all instructions. Evaluate them and set up a plan.
Don’t let weeks go by without knowing what you’ve learned. Journal your experiences.
Don’t assume you did well or poorly. Evaluate.
When thinking of the word study, don’t see these words as synonyms: assignments, duties, tests, or grades.
Pick these words instead: wonder, experiential, craft, joy, engaging.
And, let’s not hear the voice of an angry instructor demanding hard work and sudden improvement. Let’s imagine the voice of a loving father, a gentle mentor, a joyful coach, a true friend.
