There are moments when you decide to do something you’ve always dreamed of doing. And afterward, you’re just thankful you said yes.
I did.
And I am.
For me, it was going to the Home Run Derby with my son Graham.
When we initially talked about going, I hesitated.
We already had tickets. We could spend the night nearby. We could get time together doing something we both enjoy.
Still, I was reluctant.
Why do we so often have to fight through that initial hesitation?
Time? Cost? Other priorities?
I’m glad I said no to the reluctance.
I’m glad I said yes to the event.
I won’t regret it.
Time with one of our three sons—
the drive, the walks, the honest conversations, the fun of being around famous people, and the simple joy of watching something exciting unfold.
Baseball. Home runs flying into the stands. Laughter. Food. Looooong walks. More conversations.
What about you?
What door is open that you need to walk through? What event should you attend? What time should you carve out for someone you love? What place should you travel to? What conversation is waiting? What’s on your bucket list that might not be an impossible dream after all?
Do that.
The big thing or the small thing.
The far-away or the close-to-home.
The spontaneous or the carefully planned.
Yes, some people chase events like they’re chasing a high—and sometimes their best choice is learning when to say no.
But for others—for those of us who budget tightly and risk rarely—
maybe the best choice is to pack, to go, to enjoy. And to be thankful.
You might just be thankful you said yes.
